The UHRA was formed in 1993 taking the place of the Professional Trotting and Horsemen’s Association.
Dennis Bale was the first UHRA President and the first Committee included Jim Walsh, Colin McDowell, Wally Mann, John Heath and Colleen Aiken as Secretary.
When the UHRA was formed Kevin Newman and Colin Watts were made life members in recognition of their service to the previous Professional and Trotting Horseman’s Association.
UHRA is currently the official accredited body for Trainers and Drivers however since its inception the Association membership has been and will remain open to all industry participants.
The NSW Government Harness Racing Bill 2002 saw a change in the administration of harness and greyhound racing with the formation of GHRRA and separate commercial Boards i.e HRNSW and GRNSW.
After a period of poor participant consultation and dormant Kindered Association activity an advisory board (HRIPAC) was formed and UHRA received its new accreditation in February 2008 together with The NSW Breeders and Studmasters Association and NSW Bookmakers
